Why Houston households add RO at the kitchen sink
Municipal water in the Houston metro is treated to meet federal and state drinking-water standards, but compliance and preference are two different things. Chloramine disinfection leaves a taste and smell many people won't drink past. Homes with older service lines or fixtures have a lead question that whole-home carbon doesn't answer. What does reverse osmosis remove?
An RO membrane rejects a large share of dissolved solids — including lead, nitrates, fluoride, many PFAS compounds, and the mineral content that gives water a flat or metallic taste. Paired carbon stages handle chlorine and chloramine taste and odor. It's the most thorough treatment available at a single tap.
Do I need RO if I already have whole-home filtration?
They do different jobs. Whole-home carbon and softening protect your plumbing and improve every tap; RO goes much further on dissolved contaminants but only at the fixture it feeds. Most homes we work in run both — that's why our bundles pair them.
Where does the system go?
Typically under the kitchen sink, with a dedicated faucet at the sink deck and an optional line to the refrigerator or ice maker. Tankless units take less cabinet space than traditional tank systems.
Does RO waste a lot of water?
Older systems had poor recovery ratios. Modern high-efficiency and tankless units send far less to drain per gallon produced. We'll tell you the recovery ratio of whatever we quote so you can compare honestly.
Is RO water safe if it removes minerals?
Yes — dietary minerals come overwhelmingly from food, not tap water. If you prefer the taste of remineralized water, we can add a remineralization stage that puts a small amount of calcium and magnesium back after the membrane.
